Questions before you subscribe
- Is WipedMe a data broker?
- No. We never sell your personal data, and we don't meet the legal definition of a data broker, so we aren't registered as one in California, Vermont, Texas, or Oregon. We act as your authorized agent to file opt-out and removal requests with data brokers.
- What happens if I cancel?
- Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. After that we stop filing and re-checking, and listings can reappear over time without us re-filing them. Cancel from Manage billing or by emailing support@wipedme.com. Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy.
- How long do removals take?
- It depends on the site. Many respond within a few weeks. California law gives covered businesses 45 days to respond to a deletion request (with a possible extension), and some sites are slower or don't respond at all. We email you status updates and follow up on requests that stall.
- Can I use WipedMe for employment or tenant screening?
- No. WipedMe is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Nothing we provide may be used for any FCRA-regulated decision (credit, employment, housing, insurance, government benefits). We also never search for or look up other people.
- What is California's DROP, and do I need you for it?
- DROP (the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform) is California's free, state-run tool for residents, and you can use it yourself at no cost. If you'd like, we can help you file through DROP as your authorized agent; you verify your California residency yourself through the state's identity check. Data brokers registered in California have had to process DROP requests since August 1, 2026 and re-check at least every 45 days. DROP only covers registered California brokers, so we keep filing directly with other sites too.
- How do re-checks work?
- On a regular schedule, we check the sites where we've filed for you. If a listing has come back, we file again and let you know by email. We report what we saw at our last check, with the date. We don't monitor breach data and we don't send text messages.
